Today we have the infrequent opportunity to celebrate Christmas in church on Christmas Day. This morning we give praise to God for the birth of our Lord Jesus, the Son of God. He was born on earth as the incarnate Christ-child, fully God and fully human. The scripture readings point to the fulfillment of God’s promise to send the world a Savior. Unlike the kings who ruled their small dominions from lofty thrones, God sent Jesus so that God, our Creator, might share in the fullness of our human lives: as Emmanuel—God with us.

PRAYER
“What goes through your mind as you sit in the sanctuary and look around?
As I sit in my pew and look up at the cross with the wonderful light illuminating it, I am reminded of why I am at Westminster on this particular day. The cross reminds me that Christ died for me and, in a sense, I am to do the same in my daily life. The brightness of the cross illustrates for me the brightness of living my life in the way of Christ.”
