READ THE SERMON

Alan Willadsen, Elder

“CHOICES”

The author of Deuteronomy (literally “Second Law”) reminds us we have choices and our choices have consequences, which can be blessings or curses and definitely are matters of life and death.  Blessings come from making choices consistent with God’s commands.  Keeping God’s commands and seeking God’s ways keep us happy and free from shame, wrote the Psalmist.  Choices may seem ours alone to make, but Paul reminds us, and the people of Corinth, our choices have a direct impact on maintaining and building up a community.  In the section of the Sermon on the Mount we hear Jesus challenge us to understand the broad implications the Ten Commandments have on our choices and live in community.
