Our Scripture readings for today prophesy the coming of a new king. anointed by God. It is a message of hope and peace. Isaiah promises the people who had endured the devastating consequences of leaders who strayed from God’s way, that there is hope for a future, righteous king. This king will come from the house of David. He will rule over a peaceable Kingdom which will end divisions. Children, the hope of every generation, will not come to harm. The psalmist prays that a new king will rule with justice, especially for the poor. Paul assures the Gentiles they will be grafted onto God’s covenant people through Christ. In Matthew’s gospel, John the Baptist calls the people to repentance, which is necessary as preparation for God’s kingdom on earth.

“Why am I a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church? Two words keep floating up in a rather persistent way – “home” and “family” – and I realized that it is an inescapable fact that is what this church means to me. During my 40 years here, so many life events have happened and Westminster has been there for me through all those times – good and bad. It has been my home and family. They say “home is where the heart is” and I’ve found the heart of Westminster to be as open and warm as a family’s!”
