Running through our scripture readings for today is a theme of togetherness, which is quite fitting as we celebrate many anniversaries of church membership. In our reading from Acts, Peter describes to the church in Jerusalem his vision from God. He tells of a voice from heaven that proclaimed the wideness of God’s kingdom, saying, “What God has made clean, you must not call profane.” Peter realizes he is not to make distinctions between believers because God had given the gift of the same Spirit to them all. The psalmist testifies it is God’s intention that all the created world should be in harmony with God and all God created. In our epistle reading from Revelation, John expressly tells us the vision he received from God is of a new Jerusalem that “comes down from heaven.” God’s home is here with us. And rather than God destroying the creation, which was deemed to be good, creation is renewed. In the Gospel reading from John, Jesus describes what resurrection life should be, saying, “I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another.”

Almighty God, whom truly to know is everlasting life: Grant us so perfectly to know your Son Jesus Christ to be the way, the truth, and the life, that we may steadfastly follow his steps in the way that leads to eternal life; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
“I believe in Westminster’s missions of service to others and I like how biblical scholarship is integrated with scripture, providing more insight into understanding what Christ says is important. These have only helped me to strengthen my faith.”
