1st Sunday of Christmas – December 26, 2021
Rev. Denise Clark-Jones

“WHAT NEXT?”

In our Old Testament and Gospel readings for today we meet two young boys, Samuel and Jesus. Samuel is “ministering before the Lord” and Jesus is in the temple in the midst of the biblical scholars, listening and asking questions. Both had “found favor” with God and would, as adults, find favor with many people. But they would also fall out of favor with kings, religious leaders, and even friends. The Psalmist calls for all people and all the earth, indeed all of creation to praise the Lord. In Colossians, Paul teaches the church how to live in love, doing everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God through him.

Almighty God, whose Son our Savior Jesus Christ is the light of the world: Grant that
your people, illumined by your Word and Sacraments, may shine with the radiance
of Christ’s glory, that he may be known, worshipped, and obeyed to the ends of the
earth; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who with you and the Holy Spirit lives
and reigns, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
