READ THE SERMON

2nd Sunday of Easter – April 11, 2021
Rev. Denise Clark-Jones

“RESURRECTING UNITY”

A reading from Acts will replace the Old Testament reading for the rest of the Easter season. From our psalm for today, we see that the quest for unity, and the peace it brings, was God’s desire for us long before the risen Jesus entered the locked room with his fearful disciples and repeated the phrase, “Peace be with you,” three times. In our epistle reading, we find that it was of critical concern to the first Christian congregations. Disunity has increased, with disastrous consequences, in our society in the last decade. Can unity be resurrected?

Almighty and everlasting God, who in the Paschal mystery established the new covenant of
reconciliation: Grant that all who have been reborn into the fellowship of Christ’s Body may
show forth in their lives what they profess by their faith; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who
lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
